What is a Student Permit?

A student permit is your first step to becoming a licensed driver in the Philippines. It’s issued by the Land Transportation Office (LTO) and allows you to practice driving on public roads. Think of it as your learner’s license before getting the real thing.

Who Can Apply?

You must be at least 17 years old to apply for a student permit. If you’re between 17 and 18, you’ll need your parent’s consent. You also need to be able to read and write, and you must pass a written exam about traffic rules and road signs.

Requirements You Need

Getting a student permit is fairly simple. You need to bring a valid ID like a passport, school ID, or birth certificate. You’ll also need to fill out an application form at the LTO office. Bring some extra passport-sized photos with you. The fee is usually around 600 pesos, but this can change, so it’s best to check beforehand.
